YAKIMA, WA.- One man was shot in the chest after two suspects tried to rob the A & A Mini Mart on the 700 Block of North 5th Avenue in Yakima.

Police arrived on the scene around seven. According to police the cashier was outside when an armed man and woman approached him.

The suspects demanded money and the cashier fought back. The male suspect shot the victim once in the chest.

Yakima Police searched the scene and blocked off several streets but they were unable to locate the suspects.

“The search was unsuccessful, there were just so many people in the area and when you have that many people it's difficult for a canine to track that scent,” police spokesperson Mike Bastinelli explained.

The gunshot victim was transported to a local hospital; according to police his injuries were not life threatening.

There was another witness at the store who told police both suspects were Hispanic. The female was wearing a bandana over her face and the male had on a black hooded sweatshirt.

If you have any information on the suspects you are encouraged to contact Yakima Police.
