Reminder before time change: Drowsy driving a danger

NBCRightNow.com - In the wake of Thursday's deadly crash in Douglas County and just before the annual time change, a reminder about the dangers of drowsy driving.

AAA estimates on- in-six crashes nationwide can be linked to a drowsy driver. And at least 41 percent of drivers have admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel.

Washington state statistics from 2013 - the most recent year for which numbers are available - show 77 serious injuries were attributed to drowsy driving. Ten people were killed that year. But officials say the numbers may actually be higher since drowsy driving can be hard to prove.

The Washington State Patrol says, contrary to popular belief, most drowsy driving crashes happen during the day.
