Bold Burglars Hit Kennewick Neighborhood Over the Weekend

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA -- The Kennewick and Richland Police Departments teamed up recently to take down a local crime ring responsible for several home burglaries and car thefts.

Now, the Kennewick Police Department says they're seeing another string of burglaries that could be connected. It happened the same way at several different homes this weekend. A person would come to the front door and knock. When no one came to the door, they would go around back, break a window or sliding glass door and make their way inside.

This weekend the burglaries happened around the area of Vancouver and west 30th Place. Kennewick police believe this group may have been operating for several weeks now, taking things like TV's, jewelry and X-Boxs.

In fact, some people even caught the burglars in the act. When they didn't answer the door, the burglars went into their backyard and tried to get inside while they were inside. Kennewick police tell us they do not take this type of property crime lightly.

"Unless you've been the victim of a burglary, you understand that it's not just a crime against property, it's a crime against you," Mike Blatman of the Kennewick Police Department said. "You don't feel safe inside your home."

Blatman told us that Kennewick Police have noticed a dramatic increase in burglaries recently. Despite making some arrests last week during the raid, they know that there are always criminals out there.

Blatman says the best thing to do if someone knocks at your door is not to ignore it. Either answer the door or address the person from inside, that way they know you're home.
