Kennewick Firefighters Investigating Brush Fire Near the Days Inn

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, WA - Firefighters in Kennewick are trying to figure out what started a small brush fire today behind the Days Inn.

The fire started just after 5 this evening in the some brush and trees near the underpass on 4th Avenue and Green.

Crews with Benton County Fire and the Kennewick Fire Department were able to get the fire under control fairly quickly, keeping it to about two acres in size.

Firefighters say because of the dry winter the fire was able to spread faster than normal.

"There's a lot of dead brush that can catch fire particularly with our dryer temperatures that we've had in the lack of rain. With that said, we can help particularly around homes and things like that with ensuring a good green space and green area between structures and vegetation," says Battalion Chief Mikal Barnett with the Kennewick Fire Department.

Kennewick Police were also called into block off streets in the area while firefighters contained the fire.
