Richland School District Accepts Bid from Fowler Construction to Build New School

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - The Richland School District has awarded the general contractor bid for the new Marcus Whitman Elementary School to Fowler General Construction of Richland.

Fowler's bid of $16.28 million was the lowest of four bids submitted.

The new school will replace the existing Marcus Whitman which opened in 1971.

Fowler is the general contractor for the District's three other elementary schools which are currently under construction: Lewis & Clark, Orchard, and Sacajawea.
"This bid result is positive," said Superintendent Rick Schulte. "Fowler is doing an excellent job with the other schools and we expect the same with Marcus Whitman."

The new Marcus Whitman will be built in exactly the same location as the existing school.

Demolition of the existing Marcus Whitman will begin in June.

The new Marcus Whitman will open in August 2016.

Marcus Whitman students will be displaced to the Sacajawea campus for the 2015-16 school year.

District residents approved a bond issue for the new Marcus Whitman and eight other projects in February 2013.
