Academic All-Star: Richland's Abby Perryman

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - For Richland Bombers softball pitcher Abby Perryman, there's one thing left to do in her senior season... to win state.  Perryman has been a member of the varsity team since her freshman year, and every year, they've made it to the state tourney.

"Freshman year we got third and sophomore year we got fifth and last year we got third so this would be awesome to win my senior year," Perryman said.

Her love for the game started when she was just a kid.  "My dad played baseball in college so I grew up just playing whiffle ball in the backyard and then it just became a passion from there," Perryman said.

Along with being a star on the field, Perryman hits it out of the park in the classroom.  She has a 3.95 GPA.  "I'm a firm believer that you can have it all if you just ration your time correctly and so it's just all about time management," Perryman said.

Richland Softball head coach Casey Emery has coached her all four years.  This year, the team elected her as captain.  "We've been blessed to have her. She's a pitcher, 1st baseman, 3rd baseman and one of our best hitters and a leader.  She's definitely a great leader, those leadership skills you just can't duplicate with anyone else," Emery said.

Even though she's entering her final chapter as a Bomber, Perryman will continue her softball career at the next level.  She received a full ride scholarship to play at Campbell University in North Carolina.  "It's really nice to know that no matter what I'll still be able to continue you on playing because that's what I love to do but it would be really nice to end the Richland high chapter with a state championship," Perryman said.
