JUST ASK SHANE: What's Happening with the New Country Mercantile Store?

Posted: Updated:
RICHLAND, WA - We have an update on an expansion project for one of the Mid-Columbia's most popular attractions.  Sue sent me an email asking, "What's going on with the new Country Mercantile building on Badger Mountain?  It's been awhile since we've heard anything about it."

Well Sue... I'm guessing you haven't driven down Dallas Road in awhile because this new building is hard to miss, even from the interstate.  I stopped by the giant, new store this week, where crews are busy putting the finishing touches on the exterior of the building. This 14,000 square foot store will include a bakery, an ice cream and gelato shop, and the mercantile's famous chocolate factory.  The owners say it's been exciting to watch this new store transform from a vision to reality.

"Being able to build a store from the ground up, having everything supposedly like you'd like it.  It's going to be a nice thing for us," said Jay Wood, Country Mercantile owner.

Wood says customers at the new Richland store will be able to watch their employees in action, as they bake their bread products, and make their famous ice creams and candies.  Wood says the construction work is right on schedule, and they're planning to open the new Badger Mountain store in late April.
