RICHLAND, WA - Richland Police say a man on a motorcycle hit an elderly woman crossing the street Friday morning.  It happened on Van Geisen St. between McMurray Ave. and Alder Ave. about 6:45 a.m., it was still dark at the time.

Officers say 35-year-old Robert Turner was leaving the nearby Rocket Mart on his 2012 Harley Davidson when he hit 85-year-old Laverne Weissenfels crossing mid-block, not in a crosswalk.  Weissenfels had walked about block from her home to the Rocket Mart to get a newspaper.

An ambulance took Weissenfels to Kadlec Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.  Officers say she had broken ribs, a collapsed lung and head injuries.  A spokesperson for Kadlec says the woman is in critical condition.  The motorcycle rider has minor injuries including some road rash, he was not hospitalized.  Police say it doesn't appear he will face any charges, a witness told them he was not speeding.  Officers are still investigating.
