NBCRightNow.com - When you purchase a car seat for your kid you're doing it for their safety. There's a way to make sure your car seat and your vehicle are compatible to keep them safe.

Saturday in Pasco Safe Kids Benton-Franklin and Pasco Fire played host to a car seat check-up at the fire station off of Oregon Avenue. People could drive right up and have their car seats checked out right in the car. They went through a list of checks to make sure the seats were up to a safe code. They say most accidents happen close to your home so no matter how far you're ttravelingit's always important to make sure your kid is properly secured.

"You would think that it's really simple and i wish it was. By the time you read your directions and then you read the car seat directions and your vehicle directions, trying to get them all to fit together, there's so many variations," explained Annie Goodwin of Safe Kids Benton-Franklin.

If you'd like your car seat checked and you missed out Saturday they've still got you covered. You can make an appointment for a check-up through Safe Kids Benton-Franklin. In addition to first come first serve events like the one this weekend they hold them every second Wednesday of the month at the Washington State Patrol Kennewick headquarters.
