Don't Make Yourself A Target During Spring Break Vacations

Posted: Updated:
PASCO, WA- Police departments are urging that if you decide to take a spring break vacation, to make sure your belongings at home are secure. Especially with the amount of residential burglaries our area has seen lately.

Although it may be tempting, stay away from making it obvious on social media sites that you are away and that means those automatic email notifications from work, too.

If you can, forward your home phone calls to your cell phone, or turn the volume of the ringer down at home. Thieves may go as far as to call to see if your home, before they try to break in.

"Windows are vulnerable, they can be broken with anything. But if you have a home security system, make sure that is up and running. Take the opportunity away, don't give that burglar, that criminal, the opportunity to make you a victim," explained Sergeant Scott Warren with the Pasco Police Department.

It is always a good idea to have lights inside your house on timers and make sure your lawn looks taken care of. Even going as far as having a neighbor check up on your house, or inviting someone to stay while your gone is good preparation.

To completely eliminate the opportunity of someone taking valuables, lock them up in a deposit box if you do not want to take them with you.
