Extra patrols added in Umatilla County.
PENDLETON, Ore. - The Umatilla County Sheriff's Office plans on adding extra patrols on Tuesday to keep impaired driver's off the road.
Sergeant Joshua Roberts says between 2003 and 2012 more than 1,200 people lost their lives in Oregon due to alcohol related driving. He says on St. Patrick's Day between 2009 and 2013, drunk drivers have claimed 276 lives on highways nationwide.
The Sheriff's Office says these additional patrols are funded by a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff's Association.
If you happen to see a suspected drunk driver on the road, you're asked to call 541-966-3650 or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
