TSA Discovers Loaded Gun at Security Checkpoint in the Yakima Airport

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA - Officers with the Transportation Security Administration  at the Yakima Air Terminal discovered a loaded firearm at the security checkpoint Wednesday morning during routine screening of carry-on baggage.

Officers say the gun, a 380 caliber Ruger loaded with six rounds, was found around 5:30 a.m. TSA officers detected it in the carry-on bag of a 44-year-old male passenger ticketed for travel to Seattle.

This is the first firearm discovered at the Yakima airport this year.  Nationwide, since the year began more than 370 guns have been found during routine screening of carry-ons at airports across the country.

Firearms, ammunition, firearm parts and realistic replicas of firearms are always prohibited in carry-on baggage.  However, these items can be transported in checked baggage provided the traveler declares them to the airline during the ticket counter check-in process.
