BENTON COUNTY, WA - The Benton County Sheriff's Department says a man was booked into Benton County Jail for shooting at a vehicle on the property of Canon De Sol Winery.

Deputies say On March 15th  Jay T. Powers,30, the farm caretaker of the 45 acre property, saw a vehicle with two people inside had driven onto the property and parked without permission.

Powers decided to confront the people inside, to find out why they were on the property.  Powers armed himself with a handgun and started to approach the vehicle when the people in the car not knowing what Powers wanted, became concerned and started driving away.

As they drove away, Powers fired multiple shots at the vehicle, striking the rear of the vehicle several times.

Powers was arrested for 2nd Degree Assault  and booked into the Benton County Jail.  Further charges for Felon in Possession of a Firearm have also been sent to the Prosecutors office.

The manager at the winery today said they don't typically have people on the grounds only for private events and they're disappointed about this incident.
