Red Cross Real Heroes: Chris Kirk and Rachel Nelson

KENNEWICK, WA - The Red Cross honored Chris Kirk and Rachel Nelson this year. The pair saved Charles Loosveld's life last November.

"I believe I was down at the TRAC walking around. That's what I usually do. I was on my way back home... And then that's all I remember," said Charles.

He had a heart attack while he was driving home and crashed on Olympia Street in Kennewick. The car rolled and landed on its top. Charles was hanging from his seat belt, unconscious, when help arrived.

"Well, they told me that a lady came along and got me out of the car and gave me CPR and then the ambulance came," said Charles.

The first responders weren't EMT's or even police. They were real heroes Chris Kirk and Rachel Nelson.

Rachel and Charles met for the first time three months after the accident. Rachel explained how Chris cut Charles' seat belt and the two of them dragged him out of the car. As Rachel prayed and began CPR, Chris counted.

"I kept doing it and it doing it and the second minute I felt your pulse," said Rachel.

"I just thank god every day. For you. And I pray for you every day," said Charles.
