Land for New Fire Station for Benton County Fire District 4 Purchased

BENTON COUNTY, WA - A local fire district is seeing the fruits of a bond approved five years ago.

Benton County Fire District 4 has some new things in the works.

People living on Red Mountain will be able to get medical and fire crews there much quicker with the construction of a new fire station.

The commission just approved the purchase of the new fire station plot this week.

The other nearest fire station for Fire District 4 is about nine miles away and response times to this area are about 12  to 15 minutes.

Captain Ed Dunbar says response times should really be at about six minutes.

"Actually District 2 units can beat us to some of our district because they're a lot closer and that's the whole idea of that third station is to provide that response out there," Dunbar said.

The land cost about $100,000 and the purchase should be official by the end of the month.

Another big project will be building a storage facility right by the Bombing Range station to hold fire trucks that do not fit inside anymore.

Capt. Dunbar say plans for this fire station will depend on local partnerships with other fire districts and the community and it will be a couple of years before we see construction start.
