City Holds Off on Vote To Appeal Federal Judge's Decision in ACLU Lawsuit

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, WA.- Yakima's City Council met Monday morning to discuss where to go from here, after a Federal judge denied the city's appeal in a lawsuit with the American Civil Liberties Union last week.

A Federal judge ruled that the city needs to change their voting districts to avoid disenfranchising Latino voters.

The city council met to decide if they would appeal again, but councilman Dave Ettle was absent, so the council decided to delay a vote on their next step.

The city has 30 days to appeal the judge's decision again, if they desire.

That means they'll have to make a decision by April 17th at the latest.

They plan to meet again on April 7th.
