Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Veterans Housing in Walla Walla

Posted: Updated:

WALLA WALLA, WA - Veterans in Eastern Washington will soon have a new place to stay.

The Walla Walla VA Medical Center broke ground Wednesday morning on a home that will provide assistance and other services to veterans that need it.

It's a project that's been in the works for decades to help the more than 20,000 veterans in Eastern Washington. U.S. Senator Patty Murray and other representatives from around the state worked to secure $23 million in federal funding to make this project happen.

"A huge, um, community effort to make sure that veterans get their care close to home," says Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington.

The home is being built on the campus of the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA Medical Center, and will be able to house 80 veterans and their families.
