Dialed In: Franklin Co. Coroner Dan Blasdel is Not Backing Down From a Coroner's Inquest

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA - Franklin County Coroner Dan Blasdel is speaking out. He wants to respond to a recent article in the Tri-City Herald. The gist of the article said that many county leaders - the prosecutor, some commissioners - do not believe a coroner's inquest is necessary. But Blasdel is not backing down.

We asked Blasdel what he thought when he first read the article.

"Well what went through my mind is it's not their call. The laws of the state of Washington gives that power to the coroner. Not the commissioners. It doesn't give that power to the prosecuting attorney. It's a check and balance system. And If the commissioners can say no we're not going to fund that inquest then there goes your objectiveness, there goes your check and balance," said Blasdel.
