RICHLAND, WA - Benton PUD, Franklin PUD and Richland Energy Services are celebrating Public Power Week at The REACH in Richland.

The three companies employ more than 300 people and serve more than 97,000 residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural customers with some of lowest rates in the United States.

95% of the power used to serve their customers comes from carbon-free hydro, nuclear and wind power.

On Tuesday The REACH Center hosted "The Energy Experience" where middle school kids in the Tri-Cities got a chance to learn about how public power works.

"The kids are really enjoying it, we've had 650 7th and 8th graders come through and they are really having fun with the hands-on kind of activities that are here," says Karen Miller, Benton PUD Communications Manager.

Kids were also able to learn about hydropower, nuclear energy, solar and wind power as well as careers in the industry.
