After Nearly $31 Million and Two Years of Construction Renovations on Selah Middle School are Complete

SELAH, WA.- Teachers and students in Selah have a brand new middle school thanks to the community. Construction on Selah Middle School is finally complete and they're showing off the new school Wednesday night.

The Selah Middle School took two years to complete and $31 million dollars, but it's finally finished. The district passed a bond back in 2012 that financed the money for the updates, now the school is a completely renovated state of the art facility.

They have a new gym and auditorium that's equipped with seating for more than 500 people.  It also has a professional lighting and sound system and they hope to use the auditorium for community and school productions.

But of all the updates, principal Marc Gallaway, told us they're most excited about the new security features, "The security is state of the art, I can lock down the school from my phone, parents have to come through tighter security, they can't just walk into the school, so that was the biggest thing for us, is that there is one entrance for the school through out the day."

The school is now equipped with six programmable security doors that can stop fire from spreading to other parts of the school,  more than 50 security cameras, and all parents are required to be buzzed in before entering.

Wednesday evening the school is holding a "Passing of the Key Ceremony" to celebrate the schools completion. It starts at 6:30 at the school's Viking Performance and Activity Center.
