TOPPENISH, Wash. - The Washington State Patrol says Highway 22 is back open Thursday morning after crews shut the road down to clean up after a head-on collision.

Troopers say the collision happened Wednesday night around 8:51 p.m. along Highway 22 at milepost 11 about eight miles east of Toppenish. They say 26-year-old Jose Lugofuentes of Granger was driving west when he crossed into the eastbound lane hitting another car head-on.

Inside that car was 23-year-old Samuel Floresroman of Mabton. Medics took both Lugofuentes and Floresroman to Yakima Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries. Troopers are still investigating the accident.

The Washington State Department of Transportation sent crews out to clear the roadway following the crash. They closed down both lanes until about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.
