MEACHAM, WA - A man died from an apparent accidental gunshot wound while hunting on Wednesday, October 7,  about 6:24 p.m., according to the Umatilla County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say Louis Neil Branze, 76 of Seaside, shot his son David Joseph Branze 47, of Gresham in a hunting accident near Meacham by the Summit Ranger Station cabin off of Forest Service Road 3113.

Members from the Umatilla and Union County Search and Rescue teams responded and found the body of Branze. "The area of this incident is very rugged and steep so the recovery took several hours to complete", said Sheriff Terry Rowan.

The State Medical Examiner's office was contacted and an autopsy is scheduled later this week.

"At this point, the investigation is still underway and we will be working with the Medical Examiner's office to gather as much information as we can", said Sheriff Terry Rowan.
