Yakima Community Invited to Connect with Police at 'BBQ With The Cops'

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - The first "BBQ With The Cops" event is happening in Yakima on Saturday October 10th.

The event is being sponsored by The Range, an indoor shooting facility located at 1701 Garretson Lane. The facility contacted the Yakima Police Department to put on the event to show support for local law enforcement.

Mike Bastinelli, Public Information Officer for YPD tells us this is an opportunity to continue building trust between the Police and the community.

"We need the citizens to feel like their voice is going to be heard," said Bastinelli. "If they have concerns or questions directed toward the police department, we want them to feel like they can bring those concerns or questions to us."

The event goes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The food is free but they will be accepting donations for Special Olympics Washington. There will be a shooting simulator, patrol cars, a swat command center and plenty of activities for kids as well.
