UPDATE SUNDAY 10:34 PM:

PROSSER, WA- Washington State Patrol says a semi truck was involved in the 13 car pile up on Interstate 82 in between Prosser and Benton city on Saturday.

The semi truck driver was not injured, but three other people from Sunnyside and two from Post Falls, Idaho were taken to Kadlec in Richland for their injuries after the vehicles collided.

A brush fire jumped the interstate while firefighters tried to put it out. WSDOT shut down the roadway for about 6 hours.

The official cause of this crash is being investigated.

UPDATE 11:43 PM:

PROSSER, WA- We've received the initial report from WSP about a 13 car pile up on Interstate 82 Saturday afternoon.

Troopers say 53-year-old Robert Gonzalez of Sunnyside, 47-year-old Nora Gonzalez of Sunnyside and 19-year-old Alexandria Gonzalez of Sunnyside were all taken to Kadlec in Richland for injuries they sustained during the crash.

A white Chevy Suburban was the first to slow down due to low visibility and blowing dust, three cars behind failed to slow down and crashed into one another. State patrol says the cause of the pile up is due to failure to control speed.

BENTON CITY, WA- All lanes are open on I-82 between Prosser and Benton City.

BENTON CITY, WA- Both westbound lanes on I-82 between Prosser and Exit 93 Yakitat are now open. Expecting eastbound to open around 9 p.m.

BENTON CITY, WA- WSDOT says one westbound lane is now open along Interstate 82 from Prosser to Benton City. The estimated time all lanes will open is 9 p.m.

BENTON CITY, WA- Interstate 82 closed around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday due to a 13 car pile up. Troopers say a growing brush fire spread across the interstate. Initial investigation suggest that may be what caused the pile up.

Both westbound and eastbound lanes are closed from milepost 80 to milepost 96.
