Dialed In: Sheriff Steve Keane Discusses His Battle with Colon Cancer

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Benton County Sheriff Steve Keane is as committed as they come in law enforcement. He's been the sheriff for five years, in law enforcement for decades and he's just 53 years old. He's been married for more than 20 years and he's a devoted father of two.

Sheriff Keane sat down with NBC Right Now in an exclusive interview to talk about a life altering event in his life. In early August, a routine colonoscopy revealed Keane had stage 3 colon cancer. So far, he's gone through two chemotherapy treatments and it's about a six month process but he's handling it very well with a positive attitude.

Sheriff Keane is not letting the cancer or the treatments affect his day-to-day duties. He's working nearly every day and if he can't make it into the office he has remote access to everything he needs. He credits an incredible support system of family, friends and staff in keeping a semblance of normalcy in his life.
