Former Selah High School Student Files Lawsuit Against Former Teacher

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A former Selah Junior High School student has filed a lawsuit against a former teacher who was convicted of putting a camera under the student's desk.

David McMillen was sentenced on the voyeurism charge in February. He was ordered to spend two years in prison.

The student's lawyer, Bryan Smith, says McMillen's actions were a profound betrayal.

According to a police affidavit, one of the girl's classmates fell out of his chair in 2011 and saw the camera under the girl's desk. The girl told the principal about the camera, it was seized but the memory card had been erased.

The lawsuit filed in Yakima County Superior Court last week seeks unspecified damages and any other relief the court might order.
