New Judge Sworn into Superior Court

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, WA- Friday evening, Jackie Shea Brown was sworn in as the seventh judge on the Benton and Franklin Counties Superior Court Bench.

She served as a judge pro-tem in four local courts. The legislature created the additional position to the current six member court in 2013.

For ceremonial purposes, Shea Brown was sworn in by her dad, Federal Judge Ed Shea, but had been previously sworn in officially before the ceremony. The ceremony was very emotional with applause often and some tears as the new judge gave her speech towards the end.

Friends, family and coworkers showed up to the ceremony in support of this milestone in her life. We talked to her after the ceremony to see how she was feeling, "it really is a feeling that is  magical but perfect just the best".

After friends took to the podium to share well wishes and encouraging words during the ceremony, she told us she plans to be humble and respectful in the coming years as she serves the community.
