BENTON CITY, WA- Community Equine Outreach of Eastern Washington held a gelding clinic Sunday for owners to bring their horses be gelded.

Community Equine Outreach of Eastern Washington is an organization that wants to educate horse owners and to reverse the number of horses being slaughtered.

Sunday, they teamed up with Dr. Menks, who is a veterinarian, and the Unwanted Horse Coalition to host a gelding clinic.  Gelding is a procedure done that removes a horse's ability to reproduce.

The clinic saw 18 horses and the group said it is important for owners to do this and to understand why.

"The reason that you geld a stallion is to help make them a solid citizen, and so that they don't breed horses that are not wanted, and so there's no accidents and no jumping fences to visit the neighbors' mares," said Laura Stark, President of CEO of Eastern Washington.

CEO plans to do more clinics like this in the future and even some dental ones.  For more information about the organization, click here for their Facebook page.
