PROSSER, WA- Sage Bluff Alpacas prepare for the Northwest Alpacas Showcase at the TRAC Center in Pasco on October 24-25th.

The annual showcase is the time breeders and owners can show off their beautiful animals along with their fleece.  The alpacas will be judged on several categories including haltering, which is when the owner leads them around.

Judges will also closely look at their fleece, and that expensive fleece is what alpacas are known for.  Sage Bluff Alpacas' owner Jennifer Ely knows what to expect.

"At about six months to a year of age we begin halter training.  We teach them to accept our touch, to accept a halter and a lead, to be confident about walking with us, to allow their fleece to be handled, all of the things to expect in the show ring," said Ely.

There will also be a fleece show and a spin-off.  The event is entirely free to the public and it starts at 9 a.m. this Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25th, at the TRAC Center in Pasco.
