Help Local Kids Stay Warm This Winter, 30th Annual Coats for Kids Drive Underway!

Posted: Updated:

NBC RIGHT NOW -- It's getting colder outside, and we've started our annual Coats for Kids Drive to help families stay warm this winter. But we need your help.

We're entering the 3rd week of our 30th year doing the Coats for Kids Drive in the winter. We've got a couple coats in our bin here at KNDU at 3312 West Kennewick Ave. Our sales department told us we've already filled this bin up to the top once already. But we want more! We need more coats for both kids and adults to get them through the cold days and nights this winter.

Monday afternoon, we went down to the Salvation Army in Pasco where they store all the coats they give out locally through the Coats for Kids Program.

We talked to Anet Madina with the Salvation Army. She sees first hand the look on the kids faces when they pick out a coat they absolutely love. And that's a coat they wouldn't have if it wasn't for your donation.

"(They kids are) very happy," Medina said. "Especially if there is a character on the coat. If it's a Batman or a Dora or a princess, they go crazy because it's a thing they've never seen before and that's their favorite coat."

Last year we collected a total of 3,200 coats. This year we want to get 4,000!

The program isn't just for kids. Every member of a family can get one coat if they need one. So if you have a new or gently used coat you don't want, bring it down!

We have bins just like this one quite literally everywhere. To find out where to donate or how to get a coat, click on the coats for kids icon on the home page.
