TRI-CITIES, WA (AP) - Washington State University Tri-Cities will be participating in a pilot program that allows transfer students to apply credits earned at the campus toward unfinished associate degrees.

As many as 1,000 transfer students are eligible to participate in the program that university officials say will help keep transfer students in school and on track to graduate.

Eligible students must be enrolled at the university before obtaining an associate degree. They are required to have earned at least 60 quarter credits of coursework, with at least half of the credits coming from a state community or technical college.

Assistant Vice Provost Susan Poch says if the program is successful, it could be implemented in the state's other universities.
