Driver of SUV Swerves to Miss Car, Crashes into Power Pole in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, WA - A woman who drove into a power pole and snapped it in half Wednesday evening in Kennewick wasn't hurt in the crash.

According to the woman's husband, just after 6 p.m. his wife was driving their SUV on East 19th Avenue between Washington and Gum Street when she saw an oncoming car driving in the middle of the road.

Garrett Kim says, the oncoming car didn't get out of the way and at the last second, his wife swerved and hit the power pole on the side of the road.

Kim told us he's just glad everyone is OK.

"Forget the financial aspect to it. We're all about lives here, and family. We couldn't lose her. That's just all there is to it. Especially with the power lines being right on top of the truck, of course everybody was just really concerned," says Kim.

Some homes nearby the accident lost power after the crash. Benton County Fire District #1 says it took crews about 4 hours to replace the pole.

Officers cited the woman who crashed into the pole and say the other driver involved did not stay at the scene.
