MOXEE, WA - Two men were arrested for several charges on Saturday, October 24, 2015 after they led law enforcement on a high speed chase in Yakima County.

The Moxee Police Department said an officer was sent to an address in the 300 block of N. Iler St. in  Moxee to check on an alleged theft of a generator from the back of a truck at 5:13 a.m.

An officer spotted the vehicle about a block from the house and noticed the generator in the passenger seat of the car.

The officer attempted to pull the suspects over 20-year-old Austin Butler and 23-year-old Daniel Munson but the driver failed to stop and sped away quickly leading police to chase them.

The chase continued north through Terrace Heights and onto I-82, Yakima County Sheriff's deputies joined the chase and assisted as the chase continued Westbound onto SR 12 toward Gleed, according to the release.

Officers attempted to use spike strips to stop the pursuit two times during the chase but the suspect was able to avoid them both times.

Police say when the vehicle approached the intersection on SR 12 and Old Naches Highway it crossed into the oncoming lanes of SR 12 then turned Southbound onto Mitchell drive where the vehicle crashed through a fence and came to a stop.

Both suspects fled from the vehicle on foot. The driver was found hiding in a field. When officers attempted to take him into custody he resisted arrest and made threats to kill himself and implied he had a knife and a gun. Officers attempted to subdue him and he assaulted one of the officers. The officers were able to use a taser on the suspect and after a struggle he was taken into custody. The passenger was found a short time later hiding in the field with the assistance of a Yakima County Sheriff's K-9.

Police say the suspects have been identified as being involved in numerous thefts and vehicle thefts in the past couple of weeks.

Both suspects have been booked into the Yakima County Jail on recommended charges including, Eluding, Assault in the 3RD degree, Possession of a stolen vehicle, Possession of methamphetamine, Theft, Resisting arrest and Possession of auto theft tools.
