WorkSource's 'Strategies for Success' Program Aims to Help People Secure Jobs

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA - Washington Worksource is launching a new project to get people out of poverty in 4 different counties,  including Yakima.

The project is called Strategies for Success and it's a 3-year pilot project. Worksource tells us they're aiming to help 3,500 low income people in our state by providing them with classes for 16 hours a week over 6 weeks.

Some of the classes will include lessons in stress management, communication, money management, good work habits and team building.

Sandra Pieti, South Central Administrator for Worksource says they hope these lessons will turn into life skills.
"Part of our goal is to help them gain network, understand resources in the community and provide them with the skill set and strategies to keep a job long-term," said Pieti.

The training will be funded through a $22 million grant. Right now, Employment Security is hiring instructors to teach the classes.
