MATTAWA, WA - The Grant Public Utilities District says a failed breaker on a generator caused an explosion that injured six employees at the Priest Rapids Dam earlier this month.

The PUD says when the breaker failed, it caused an arc flash, which is when electricity goes from one point to another on electrical equipment, and usually will go out into the air in the process. Arc flashes can be intentional or unintentional, and in the case of the Priest Rapids Dam explosion, obviously it was unintentional.

It will be several weeks before a report is released on what exactly caused the equipment to fail.

Two PUD workers are still in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
