City of Yakima Names Interim City Manager

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- The future of the current Yakima City Manager, Tony O'Rourke, has been up in the air for some time. Over the past few months he's applied to several jobs in different states, and just recently announced he'd be leaving his position at the beginning of the year.

We found out Friday the City Council asked the City Attorney, Jeff Cutter, to work as Interim City Manager.

The Yakima City Council decided unanimously to vote Cutter into the position at a special meeting Friday morning.

We spoke with the city this afternoon about this decision to move forward with a replacement so quickly, they told us O'Rourke will still be working alongside Cutter. They say it's like a training process preparing the Interim Manager for his new duties.

"It is going to be a great challenge, there are a lot of things facing the city and the Yakima City Council. I see my role as the City Attorney as something less than a public figure head, so this will be in that respect somewhat different, we'll see how well I meet that challenge," Interim Manager, Jeff Cutter, said.

Cutter has worked with the city's legal department since 1997. The city says Cutter will start working alongside O'Rourke this coming Monday.
