Academic All Star: Brycen Kelly

Brycen Kelly loves being a Southridge Sun.

"I go to the games of our other Fall Sports teams," he says. "Actually, right after this {practice} we're going to the soccer game...they're playing Mount Spokane in a regional match."

He enjoys rooting on classmates in other sports, but this week is a heavy one for him: Friday is the last time he'll ever play with this senior class.

"It's like losing a best friend. You see the seniors, they were there for you since you were a freshman and they were sophomores. So you looked up to them, and to see them go is like losing a brother," he says.

With a 3.7 GPA, he understands the importance of good grades. But he also understands the importance of community, and that doesn't go unnoticed.

"Brycen is a sun through the through," says Southridge head coach Tony Reiboldt. "He's been here forever, his older brother was on the team. So when you see him out at other events, he's truly a Southridge kid. He's excited about being here, really driven kid."

Going forward, he knows that a year from Friday could be the last time he puts on his school's uniform; so he's enjoying the rest of the ride.

"High school went by really fast," he laughs. "I remember my first game as a freshman, and now your last year's coming up. It's really too fast."g
