Staying safe this flu season. Staying safe this flu season.

KENNEWICK, WA - The flu season started early this year but according to health districts in our area the virus has not caused a lot of activity to this point.

Benton Health District recommends that you still take precautions against the virus like making sure to wash your hands, covering your mouth when you cough and staying home when you're sick.

"In Washington State again we have seen flu but the numbers aren't peaking yet. Unfortunately this year there have already been five deaths from the flu so even though we're not seeing high numbers from the disease flu is still a serious illness," says Amy Person, Health Officer Benton-Franklin Health District.

The health district's say Influenza peaks around late December and early January so if you haven't gotten your vaccination there is still plenty of time to get one, but the sooner you get it the better.
