KENNEWICK, WA - It's flu season and when you're working at a place with a lot of people coming through everyday it makes it harder to avoid getting sick. All that traffic makes it much easier to spread germs, but some local businesses are being proactive.

"We provide flu shots for our employees if they want them. Not everybody does, some people have a phobia about it," Charlie Grigg, Owner, ACE Hardware.

Despite the free flu shots some ACE employees decide to go without it even though health districts like Benton-Franklin recommend it.

"We encourage everyone to be getting their flu shots now if they haven't gotten them already," Dr. Amy Person, Benton-Franklin Health District.

ACE says their biggest issue with keeping employees healthy during this season is the handling of money.

"We encourage cleanliness but we provide extra things just in case," says Grigg.

They always have hand sanitizer for themselves and customers and employees say they clean their work space at least once a day.

"try to remind people to wash their hands. work places can also again encourage employees to stay home if they have influenza so they don't make other coworkers sick," says person.

The health district says the flu season peaks in late December so there's still time to get a shot if you haven't already.
