Celebrations to Mark 50th Anniversary of the U.S. Courthouse & Federal Building in Richland

RICHLAND, WA - People in Richland celebrated the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building Thursday.

There will be a series of special events all month to commemorate the building's history.

Thursday was the kick-off for those events, giving public tours of the building and courthouse.

There were also employees on hand who spoke about being a part of the courthouse through its 50 year history.

"Today we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Richland Federal Building. This building was dedicated November 9th 1965. GSA is the federal entity that manages federal buildings and historic buildings are one of the things that we take care of. And when we do reach a milestone like 50 or 100, then we try and celebrate that and mark that occasion," says Stephanie Kenitzer, U.S. General Services Administration Public Affairs Officer.

The Department of Energy has called Richland home for more than 50 years. The agency has searched through its photo library and archives to pull together a historic slideshow presentation.

Presentation of the Colors for Veterans Day

Join the Richland Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7952 and a representative from U.S. Congressman Dan Newhouse's office for a brief flag ceremony to honor our nation's veterans.

- U.S. Courts Naturalization Ceremony
Tuesday, November 17 at 10 a.m.
Richland U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building Auditorium

More than 50 individuals will take the oath of citizenship during this naturalization ceremony hosted by the U.S. Courts.Be part of a special naturalization ceremony hosted by the U.S Courts.

- Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Hearing
Tuesday, November 17 at 2 - 5 p.m.
Richland U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building Auditorium

Don’t miss this historic occasion as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will hold hearings for the first time in the Court’s history at the Richland U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building.

- U.S. Courts Open House
Thursday, November 19 at 3 - 5 p.m.
Richland U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building Auditorium

The U.S. District Court invites you to come learn more about the Federal Court in Richland. Hear the Judges speak from the bench at 3:00 p.m. Guided tours of the Courthouse will follow beginning at 3:20. The Open House will conclude with a reception and some refreshments.
