RICHLAND, WA- Five men armed with shotguns, pepper spray, and a baseball bat, believed to be Hispanic or White, entered an unlock house on the 1100 block of Benham Street in Richland, but took nothing from the home.

The incident is something people in the Richland neighborhood will have on their minds for a while.

"We walked out on the porch and there were police all over and we were thinking what is going on," said a nearby neighbor who wished not to be identified.

That was the reaction of neighbors that lived right across the street from a home five men walked into on the 1100 block of Benham Street in Richland Sunday night right after 9 p.m.  Once inside, the suspects told a man and woman that they were robbing them and told the woman to get on the floor, but she refused.  The five men wore ski masks and hooded sweatshirts and carried shotguns, pepper spray, and a bat.

"Most burglaries like this, you don't see people armed like these individuals were," said Captain Mike Cobb, Richland Police Department.

That part added more to this unusual incident.

"The guys tried to shoot them, but the guns didn't work.  The guys maced them and they took off," said the neighbor.

Reportedly, no items from the house were taken.

"No, they didn't take anything out of the home, they didn't demand anything from the residence.  They just told them they were being robbed," said Captain Cobb.

Officers found a shotgun shell on the floor of the home. The five men, believed to be White or Hispanic, ran to the next street, hopped into a car, and were not found.

Neighbors are just glad no one got hurt and hate that it happened so close to home.

"It's very scary. It was right across the street, so it could've been our house," said the neighbor.

The victims of the invasion said it was a shock.  They do not believe they know the suspects, but of course they could not tell because the men had on ski masks.
