KENNEWICK, WA - The Benton-Franklin Health District says local Chipotle Mexican Grill locations have been approved to reopen Tuesday after an E.coli outbreak that made over 40 people sick in Western Washington and Oregon.

There were no confirmed cases in eastern Washington. Investigators still haven't been able to find the exact source of the outbreak.

“We’d like to thank the staff from the Chipotle Mexican Grill for their proactive response to the report of illnesses,” said Susan Shelton, Food Safety Program Supervisor at Benton-Franklin Health District. “The management and staff have been very cooperative throughout this entire process.”

During the closure period, local Chipotle Mexican Grill staff threw away all of the fresh and frozen foods, provided additional training to staff, and cleaned and sanitized the restaurant. Benton-Franklin Health District inspected the restaurant twice to make sure proper food safety procedures were being used and to provide additional training to staff.
