Man Helps Officers Catch Burglars Stealing From His Home in Naches

Posted: Updated:

NACHES, WA - Have you ever wondered what it would be like to come home to realize you home was in the process of being burglarized? That was the case for one Naches resident yesterday.

Yesterday afternoon, deputies received a call about a burglary in progress. The unusual part? The home owner took power into his own hands and caught one of the intruders. Before deputies arrived.

"I went to walk down the hallway and as soon as i got to the hallway, i saw two men in my bedroom... So i turned around, i went back to my truck, got my cell phone and called 911.." said Naches resident Josh Gooler.

Gooler came home to find some of his personal belonging out of place... Feeling uneasy, he searched his home and saw two men stealing his guns. "the two gentlemen were coming out the backdoor with all my rifles and i held them at gunpoint there... seemed like a long time, but probably just ten seconds..."

The two made a run for it, but josh and his neighbor managed to catch the one of the burglars, and held him until deputies arrived.

Home burglaries are a common occurrence in Yakima County. Detective sergeant Mike Russell says they get reports of at least one a day.

"It took quite a few law enforcement officers to set up a perimeter, work the area. They ended up seeing someone running who matched the description of the second suspect. They ended up chasing him down and taking him into custody..."

But for Josh Gooler, the scars of this run much deeper than stolen property.

"They got a hard drive with all my kids pictures on it from the day they were born, the last 9 years. And that is the hardest part so i don't wish the upon anyone."
