KENNEWICK, WA - The Benton-Franklin Health District is offering free diabetes self-management workshops to help empower people with this condition and help them improve their health. The class will go over managing symptoms, eating healthy, how to read nutrition labels and how to keep your blood sugar in check. Classes are offered in both Spanish and English and they're looking to expand with the growing need of diabetes patients in our area. The health district says they want to have these classes because people need to know how to manage their condition.

"We can take control by self-managing, learning the tools, how to self-manage so you can get more out of life and be more aware of what to do when those symptoms arise," says Lisa Gonzalez, Diabetes Self-Management Coordinator.

The district says feedback from the first workshop has been great and they recommend anyone who lives with a person with diabetes take the class because that can be just as helpful.

If you're interested in the workshops contact Benton-Franklin Health District at 509-460-4200.
