Yakima Greenway Foundation Plans to Complete Greenway by 2016

YAKIMA, WA.- The Yakima Greenway Foundation has been working on the Greenway paths that run through Yakima for nearly 20 years, but when we spoke with them Monday, they said the final 10 miles of the Yakima Greenway is set to be completed next year.

The final ten miles will complete a total of 20 miles that stretch through Yakima and make up the Greenway. The final portion will cost around $4 million to complete, but the foundation says it's worth it.

On average they see around half a million visitors on the Greenway each year and the community has been pushing for expansion.

"This project was being loved to death, there were people just everywhere, and the community needed more places to get out and recreate," said Greenway Director, Al Brown.

The Yakima Greenway is completely funded through community donations, they told us on average it takes around $600,000 a year to keep up the grounds.

The Greenway Foundation is hoping to have the last ten miles completed by the Summer of 2016 for their busiest time of year.
