Pasco Garbage Pickup Tax Rate Increasing January First

Posted: Updated:

PASCO, Wash. - The tax rate on garbage pickup in the city of Pasco has not been raised in nearly a decade. Until now.

The Pasco City Council voted in favor Monday night of an increase to help keep up with the rising costs of collections after months of negotiations with its vendor, Basin Disposal Inc.

"So we've been in negotiations with the city of Pasco for the last number of months and tonight they have approved a 15.5% rate increase over all service rates in the city of Pasco. It's really a culmination of 10 years worth of increasing costs over many fronts to adjust the price to where it needs to be," said BDI President Darrick Dietrich.

The city council vote was not unanimous. One council member voted against the increase.

The rate hike goes into effect January 1, 2016.
