Person Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident Near Stanfield, OR Identified

UPDATE: Troopers continue to investigate a 11 vehicle collision involving five semi-trucks and six cars were involved in the crash on I-84.

WSP says the name of the semi-truck driver who died is William Hernandez, 47, of Caldwell, Idaho. 

Several other people involved were sent by fire crews to hospitals in Hermiston and Pendleton for treatment of injuries.


NEAR STANFIELD, OR - Hermiston Fire and Emergency Service crews say high winds and blowing dust resulted in a deadly crash involving several vehicles Tuesday evening along I-84.

Fire crews say they were already responding to multiple calls early Tuesday evening in Hermiston when they got called out to a crash involving several semi-trucks and at least three cars.

It happened just east of Stanfield along I-84 at around 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire departments from Hermiston, Echo, Stanfield, Umatilla and Pendleton responded and had to work to pull out some patients stuck in their cars after the crash.

Ambulances took several patients to the hospital. One person died.

Hermiston Fire says 38 emergency responders went out to help, as well as a crew from LifeFlight. They were on scene for five hours.

ODOT closed the interstate for several hours in both directions for most of the night.
