The Union Gospel Mission Prepares To Pass Out 500 Boxes Of Thanksgiving Food

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and many of us are already planning for our own Thanksgiving feasts, but try planning for hundreds that's what the Union Gospel Mission here in Yakima has been doing all week.

Dozens of volunteers are packing up 500 boxes full of green beans, mashed potatoes, turkeys and other thanksgiving items to give to families in need all over the Yakima Valley.

They do this every year, but they said this year the outpouring of donations from the community has been overwhelming.

"Yakima has just blessed us, just poured out there love and whatever we still get in we get to cook for a wonderful dinner on Wednesday and Thursday of Thanksgiving," Food Director Debbie Caryl told us.

On top of the 500 boxes of food the mission will host their annual Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday and Thursday next week.

To be eligible to receive a Thanksgiving box from the mission you must have a family with children under the age of eighteen. You also have to make sure you come to the mission to register. The last day to sign up is Thursday from 1 to 3.
