COWICHE, WA.- There were some tense moments for emergency responders in Yakima on Friday after a car and a semi collided and then caught on fire.

The crash happened around 11:30 after deputies say a car drifted across the center lane on Summitview Avenue near Pioneer Way in Cowiche and drove head on into a semi-truck.

The truck then drove off the road crashing into a field where the cab on the semi caught on fire. Deputies told us the two passengers in the semi were at first unable to get out of the truck, but firefighters were able to pull them out without injury.

The driver of the car was trapped in the car when we arrived, but they were able to get him out. Deputies told us he was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Right now they don't know what caused the driver of the car to drift into the other lane, but they told us they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
