Students at Robertson Elementary Raise Money for Local Girl with Cancer

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, WA.- Students at Robertson Elementary School are helping to make one little girl's battle with cancer a little bit easier. Students raised more than 2,000 dollars after they heard four year old Paige Kegley  from Yakima was undergoing treatment for cancer.

Paige's mother teaches here in Yakima, so when one of the counselor's at Robertson heard Paige had been diagnosed with cancer she jumped into action along with several students who began a coin collection. In a matter of only 10 days students were able to collect $2,065.

We caught up with one student who told us Paige's story hit close to home and she's thankful she could help.

"There's a lot of survivors in my family, but also a few people that have died from cancer, so I just wanted to help someone out who has it," 5th grader Lily Hochstatter told us.

Paige was diagnosed with Wilm's Tumor, a cancer of the kidney, in September. She's currently at the Seattle Children's Hospital undergoing treatment.
